A Taste of Bridal Bliss

13 Jul

Last Saturday, Social Lilly hosted the Brides Who Lunch Bon Voyage event and showcased some of Atlanta’s hottest bridal vendors and venues. A total of forty brides and guests were in attendance as they were transported by Cooper Atlanta to three beautiful venues that would be wonderful options for bridal luncheons, rehearsal dinners, or bachelorette dinners. Jill Calefate Photography was there at every stop to capture the moments as brides discovered all the wonderful options they had to plan their special day.

The first venue that brides visited was The Grape at Atlantic Station. The guests were treated to a beautiful reception in the wine room there, as well as complimentary wine tastings and food samples. Confettie Me was there to showcase their wedding stationary and invitations. They provided a beautiful sample of their product with the invitation for the event, which was made to look like a suitcase in conjunction with the bon voyage theme. Formally Yours showcased two of their gorgeous dresses that would be perfect for a bridal luncheon.
Next, guests were transported in style to Steel Restaurant and Lounge, where they were greeted with watermelon lemonade and sushi samples. Brides mixed and mingled with Stella & Dot by Buffie, who provided jewelry for every part of the bride’s wedding process. She showed brides how to pair jewelry with dresses for their rehearsal dinner, as well as appropriate wedding jewelry to go with their gown. Karen Twomey Floral Designs showed brides the importance of fresh flowers on their special day. She had bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, as well as tablescapes and centerpieces for brides to view. Formally Yours showed the guests two more wonderful dress options that would be great for the rehearsal dinner.

Finally, the brides and their guests visited the Artmore Hotel where they viewed the outdoor space, as well as the indoor reception space and the rooms available. Sugar Lilly was there to provide delicious treats such as chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, and assorted candies. They showed brides how to customize these treats to match the colors and theme of their wedding, as well as their logo or monogrammed initials. Feline Fitness was represented to introduce their Bachelorette Boot Camp for brides or bachelorettes looking to get in shape for their special day. Formally Yours showed multiple wedding gowns and several styles to get brides thinking about what they would like to wear on their wedding day. Lilly White Events was also in attendance, and stressed the importance of hiring a good wedding planner to alleviate the stress of planning a wedding. They also introduced for the first time their Perfect Planning Package, which gives brides a couture wedding at DIY prices. Brides can pick and choose from each part of the package to personalize it, but the package helps to give guidance and direction to coordinating all of the details of the big day.

The event was a huge success thanks to the wonderful vendors and the brides who were eager to plan their perfect weddings. The element of transporting guests to different venues added excitement and mixed up the afternoon to keep the guests entertained and content throughout the day. Social Lilly thanks everyone who came out to make the day one to remember, and hopes that brides will benefit from the experience and have the wedding of their dreams!

Making old memories in a new way

10 Jun

Who said you have to go the traditional route of the boring guestbook at your wedding? Most people end up just signing their name anyway, so why not spice things up a little bit and amp up the excitement of your guests’ well-wishes for your marriage.

Nowadays, couples are pushing the envelope on tradition in many aspects of the wedding process, and the guestbook is no exception. Many couples like the idea of having the guests leave their messages on something that can be displayed in the house. You can buy a white platter and have guests sign with porcelain paint markers, then fire the platter in the oven to set the paint, and you will have a keepsake that can be displayed in the kitchen or on a shelf where you will always see your guests’ loving wishes. If you want something a little fancier, you can buy a silver platter and have guests use a diamond tip pen to permanently engrave their messages into the platter. Another popular idea that many couples use is to have guests sign the mat around their favorite wedding picture.

Make sure a pen is provided that will not bleed or fade through the years. If you’re getting married around the holidays, a cute idea is to have each guests write their message on a christmas ball ornament that can be hung on your tree and cherished for years to come. A more intimate way of sharing messages can be done through the use of individual cards. Find a pretty box to keep the cards and envelopes in, and as guests take them out and write their private message on them, have them placed in a basket beside it so you can sit down and read them at a later date.

Adesso wedding photo guest books allow guests to take a polaroid picture of themselves having fun at your wedding, put it in the slot in the book, and write a message beneath it.  This is a more  fun and personal approach to the traditional guest  book.

Virtually anything you can think of to write on can be turned into a wedding keepsake if you get creative with it! Be creative, afterall, your memories are a precious keepsake.

Do you like your wedding toast buttered?

26 Feb

The stories unfold…

“Tying the Knot” where did this phrase come from? Centuries ago, many cultures around the world including Celtic, Hindu, and Egyptian weddings literally tie the hands of the bride and groom together to demonstrate the couples commitment.

Tying the knot also had unique meanings in the Roman Empire. The bride tied her girdle in knots and the Groom untied the knots prior to consummation of their marriage

What are some other interesting facts about a wedding?

So you are planning your wedding and you want to get married on Saturday. Well guess what, according to English folklore, Saturday is the unluckiest wedding day of the week, but yet it is the most popular. Wednesday is considered the best day. Monday is for wealth and Tuesday is for health.

So why is the ring worn on your fourth finger on your left hand? Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger on the left hand because it was once thought that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart.

The Wedding Toast (bread?) This fun and sometimes embarrassing tradition first began in France. Bread would be placed in the bottom of two drinking glasses for newlyweds. They would then drink as fast as they could to be the first person to get to the toast. According to legend, the winner would rule their household.

Can you believe that one of the earliest engagement rings was given to Princess Mary, daughter of Henry VIII; she was 2 yrs old at the time.

Queen Victoria started the theme of the worlds white wedding dress in 1840. Everyone thinks that you wear white on your wedding day because it meant purity, but that is not the case. Blue is actually the color of purity. Before Queen Victoria women just wore their best dress not their white dress.

It was thought by ancient Greeks and Romans that the veil protected the bride from evil spirits. Brides have worn veils ever since.

During a Christian ceremony the bride stands to the grooms left because in ancient times the groom needed their right hand free to fight off other suitors.

Many generations ago it was required that witness’ be present while the couple consummated the marriage. Then the witness would emerge with the brides garter for proof they saw the events.

Stay tuned for more odd and exciting wedding traditions each week……
